Rancho Mesa’s Sam Clayton, Vice President of the Construction Group, and Jeremy Hoolihan, Account Executive of the Construction Group, were the guests of Sentry Insurance Company at the Green Bay Packers vs. the Oakland Raiders game played on October 20, 2019. Sam and Jeremy were two of the four brokers selected from California for this amazing experience, based on Rancho Mesa’s relationship with Sentry.

Rancho Mesa Wishes Two Family Members a Happy Retirement

Within the last the last few months Rancho Mesa Insurance Services, Inc. has said farewell to two longtime family members, Merry Rosseau and Kathy Scheuerman. Both contributed many years to Rancho Mesa’s success. They will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of working with them.

October 25, 2019 marked Merry Rosseau’s last day at Rancho Mesa. Merry spent 15 years at Rancho Mesa as a Senior Account Manager. Prior to that, she was an Office Manager for 13 years for the San Diego Branch of Colonial Western Agency. Her career in the insurance industry began with San Diego Federated/GAF Insurance Services, a subsidiary of the former San Diego Federal/Great American Saving Bank doing Personal Lines Insurance and ending as a manager.

Merry enjoys sewing, visiting quilt shops, and participating in craft shows. She also likes to bake and cook. Her favorite thing to do is spending time with family and friends, but her most favorite thing is to spend time with her three grandchildren.

Kathy Scheuerman started with Rancho Mesa in 2001. For almost 18 years she had various duties including receptionist, issuing certificates of insurance, supporting health benefits, and surety departments.

Kathy resides in El Cajon with her family. She enjoys various arts and crafts, including drawing, sewing and soap making.

We thank Merry and Kathy for their years of hard work and dedication to the team. They will be deeply missed but we wish them all the best in their new retired lives!

Rancho Mesa Attends 7th Annual State of Nonprofit & Philanthropy Summit

San Diego’s warm clear skies provided a cheerful backdrop for The Nonprofit Institute’s 7th Annual State of Nonprofit and Philanthropy Summit at the University of San Diego’s Mother Rosalie Hill Hall in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences. The Summit hosted nearly 260 attendees on October 18, 2019 who gathered to hear the results of the 2019 Leader Survey, participate in dialog with public, private, and social sector leaders, and explore trends in philanthropic giving and donor behavior, public trust, and the impact of public policy on nonprofits.

“The purpose of the Summit is to highlight the current state of the nonprofit sector and philanthropy that supports it, as well as key trends that affect how these organizations are able to operate, fulfill their mission and meet critical needs in the community,” according to the event’s webpage.

Rancho Mesa’s Vice President of the Human Services Group Sam Brown, and Account Executive Chase Hixson understand the challenges shared by their clients in fulfilling their missions.

“The USD Nonprofit Institute supports nonprofit leaders in so many important ways. Every attendee had something to learn or wisdom to share. We are incredibly lucky to have this in San Diego. Rancho Mesa is proud to support this important event,” said Sam Brown.

Rancho Mesa Set to Open 2nd Office

Rancho Mesa is proud to announce that we will be opening a second office in downtown La Mesa, CA.

“This is an exciting time for us, we’ve been looking for over a year and it’s amazing to be returning to La Mesa where it all started back in 1998” said Dave Garcia, President of Rancho Mesa Insurance Services, Inc.

Construction is well underway and the scheduled move in date is the latter part of this year.

On Thursday, October 3, 2019 the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) put on their 12th Annual Bowling Tournament at Kearny Mesa Bowl.

Rancho Mesa’s Sam Clayton, Vice President of the Construction Group; Jeremy Hoolihan, Account Executive of the Construction Group; Yvonne Gallagher, Landscape Account Manager; and Christina Haake, Construction Account Manager, participated in the raffle, enjoyed delicious food, met fellow insurance professionals, and had fun bowling; all while contributing to a good cause! The annual event raises funds to support grants, volunteer service and leadership to local charities.

"The IICF Bowling for Charity event is always a blast," says Christina Haake, Construction Account Manager at Rancho Mesa. "Our Rancho Mesa team had such a great time competing in the tournament, but also catching up with our friends in the industry. We look forward to it every year."

Rancho Mesa Insurance Services is pleased to announce that Colin Cadman has joined the Employee Benefits department as a Benefit Analyst. In this role, Colin will support the team in a variety of administrative and strategic ways, bringing his energy and expertise to this rapidly growing division within Rancho Mesa.

Colin was born and raised here in San Diego before attending UC Santa Cruz and graduating with a degree in Psychology. He currently resides in Bay Park with his fiancée and two dogs. He is an entrepreneur at heart, and his hobbies include rock climbing, game nights, beach volleyball, and hiking.

Client Spotlight: 36th Annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon Raises Funds for UCP San Diego

San Diego’s firefighters, local TV and radio personalities, Hollywood celebrities, look-a-likes, and caring patrons gathered on Coronado’s sunny shores to raise funds for the United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County (UCP) at the 36th Annual Firefighters & Friends Celebrity Waiters Luncheon. Clear skies over the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa on September 20, 2019 lend itself to a perfect afternoon for giving to a worthwhile cause.

The event’s live and silent auctions, generous tips and sponsorships raised $58,000 for the organization whose mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people affected by cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

“UCP would like to thank our local media partners Sunny 98.1 FM, Location Edit, KUSI News and the San Diego Community Newspaper Group for their promotional efforts,” reads the organization’s website. “UCP also thanks the staff of the Coronado Marriott Resort & Spa for their assistance and cooperation and the following organizations, companies and individuals for their support: Auctioneer Clint Bell, Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Misty Thompson & Melody Morgan, DPC Productions, the San Diego Gulls, San Diego Seals National Lacrosse team and the San Diego Enforcers.”

On Saturday, September 7, 2019 Vocational Visions, an Orange County nonprofit helping create opportunities for adults with disabilities, hosted the Enchanted Evening Gala at the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach, CA.

Rancho Mesa’s Sam Brown, Shane Medlin, and Colin Cadman enjoyed the fun-filled event as it offered delicious food, a Vocational Visions participant dance routine, and one of the most impressive silent auction collections ever seen.

During the event, Joan McKinney, Executive Director at Vocational Visions, honored Rancho Mesa Insurance Services, Inc. as Vendor of the Year.

"Sam Brown always goes the extra mile," said Joan McKinney, Executive Director at Vocational Visions. "He helped us get no cost GPS devices and monitoring software, from our carrier, for our fleet of vehicles. He secured us a worker’s compensation quote that was significantly less than all other quotes we received. He did this by reviewing all our safety policies and staff training with the underwriter. Sam and Rancho Mesa are so responsive to our need to preserve resources for our non-profit organization, so that we can direct those resources to our programs and those who benefit from our services."

Like an intimate gathering of close friends, guests celebrated at the San Diego Yacht Club on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the OneofOne® Partners Recognition Spotlight event hosted by Rancho Mesa’s President, Dave Garcia. The event honored Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies’ (BHHC) San Diego claims department and underwriting staff for their commitment to providing OneofOne® service to Rancho Mesa clients over the last 20+ years.

The evening was filled with views of the marina, food, drinks, music, photobooth, tequila, and friendly faces. All enjoyed the celebration.
